Anyway, Caitie, I commend you for dropping a note even if you didn't have time for a full post!! Way to go for sticking to it, even with a migraine. Heidi, I'm impressed with your confession. Doesn't it feel good to be honest and then realize that's not what you want?
Today was a great day. I finally made it to the gym. I did 45 minutes on the stair climber and then 15 on the elliptical but I was chatting with a friend during this time so I wasn't running as hard as I should (it's so hard to stay motivated to keep hauling without my heart rate monitor). We got chatting so I didn't get into the weight room for as long as I'd like but at least I feel better having at least addressed my legs a shoulders a bit. To prevent over-eating I underestimated my cal burn a bit.
Eating wise, I did great. After a couple of hours at the gym I'm usually starving so instead of jumping off a calorie cliff, I stopped by my house and grabbed some raw cauliflower I'd chopped up the night before for my snack and some shredded ham. If I don't get some protein with my veg I'm hungry five minutes later so this seemed like the fastest option for a speedy snack. Then I raced to pick up my little guy from school. The snack was so perfect I repeated it later in the day when I started to feel hungry but I wasn't going to get home for a while.
I had a great day, and though my stomach hasn't been begging for food, much. . . I do have the first week headache. But I like to think of it as part of overcoming my addiction so I'm good with it. I just grabbed some Tylenol and will likely head to bed as soon as I finish this.
Here's what happened today:
BMR CALC: (1760+660)-1,256=1,164 Calorie Deficit Today (3,500 cals = 1 Lb). I'm normally not this aggressive with my calories, but I need to make significant progress the first week to get really motivated to keep going. I've also got a wedding coming up and I have no intention of being the fat kid in the family picture.
Today's Tip: Corn vs. Flour
I love tacos and not too long ago I discovered that a small flour tortilla had about 140-150 calories while the same size corn tortilla has only 50 or less if you buy carefully. I decided then and there to learn to love corn tortillas. Now that I've made the effort, I actually prefer them. I always have corn swapped out for flour tortillas now in everything I do. I even do it (I got this idea from Katie who always orders flour tortillas instead of chips) when I go to a Mexican restaurant and they have chips and salsa. Rather than letting them bring me a bowl of chips I ask for two small corn tortillas. It's a nice finite portion and way lower in calories than the fried chips. Now, if I could just figure out how not to love chocolate so much!
Until tomorrow. . .
